Dr Anita Baruah Sarmah College of Education is a Teachers' Training College, established in the year 2004.The College was established earlier by NERIM Educational Society in the name and style of 'NERIM Teachers' Training College'. However, the name of the college was changed to Dr Anita Baruah Sarmah College of Education in the year 2006 after the premature demise of Dr Anita Baruah Sarmah, one of the chief founders of NERIM Educational Society. Accordingly,on the recommendation of the governing body of the college the change of name was approved by Gauhati University, theaffiliating body, through its Executive Council Resolution No.2006/2/29/20 dated 21-01-2006.Further, National Council for Teacher Education also accorded its approval for changing the name of the college from 'NERIM Teachers' Training College' to 'Dr Anita Baruah Sarmah College of Education' vide its letter No.ERC/66.12.8/2006/1998.

Dr Anita Baruah Sarmahwho was a professor and a scholar of repute started her career as a lecturer in the Department of English, Gauhati University for 22 years under several esteemed designations.Dr Anita Baruah Sarmahwas associated with NERIM Educational Society since its inception and was its philosopher and guide throughout its growth and development. For a short span of time, she remained as the President of NERIM Educational Society.Dr. Anita Baruah Sarmah cherished a dream of setting up an institute of excellence in the field of Education.She treasured a vision of providing quality training to the teachers who are torch-bearers of our younger generation and thereby develop human resource in an appropriate direction.
The idea of setting up a College of Education by NERIM Educational Society was initiated by Dr Anita Baruah Sarmah. The proposal for obtaining necessary statutory recognition from NCTE, Government of India was moved as per her advice in the month of December,2003. Hence, in order to perpetuate the memory of Dr Anita Baruah Sarmah and to fulfill her dreams 'NERIM Teachers Training College' has been dedicated to the people of Assam as-

PERMISSION AND AFFILIATION

B.Ed

The Government of Assam has accorded permission to NERIM Educational Society vide its letter No. A(X)E.132/2000/208,dated.24-06-2004 along with a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to start B.Ed College.
Gauhati University has granted itsaffiliation to NERIM Educational Society for conducting B.Edprogramme of the University vide its Executive Council Resolution No. 2006/17/176(14) dated 08-11-2006.B.Ed programme of this College is governed as per prescribed Rules and Regulations of Gauhati University.

M.A (EDUCATION)

Gauhati University has granted its affiliation toDr Anita Baruah Sarmah College Of Education for conducting M.A (Education) programme from the session 2016.

RECOGNITION

This College Of Education is duly recognized by National Council For Teacher EducationNCTE as NERIMTeachers' Training College (NTTC)' vide its letter No.ERC/7-58.6.8/2005/2362, dated 20-07-2005. However, the name of the college was changed to Dr Anita Baruah Sarmah College of Education, following a resolution adopted by the meeting of the Governing Body held on 01-08-2005.


PREMISES

NERIM is currently operating from three premises namely,Padma Nath Sarmah Bhawan at Beltola, Parukutty Bhawan at Nabin Nagar and MDRCC at Mangala Nagar ,Mangaldoi. The Padma Nath Sarmah Bhawan is situated in an area of 3 acres of land,Parukutty Bhawan has an area of 1/2 acres of land and Mangaldoi campus is spread over 11 acres of land respectively.

Presently, Dr Anita Baruah Sarmah College of Education is located at Parukutty Bhawan Complex which was owned by Late Dr. Anita Baruah Sarmahwho was kind enough to handover the premises to NERIM for a long period of 30 years.
